Week 1

This week was a introduction to Research Project.
Our First task was to use the 'Wonder Wheel' Feature on Google. I didnt have a topic to use so I decided to just type in a random thing to use the Wonder Wheel, it was a easy to use feature and could possibly be a useful tool. wonder_wheel.jpg

Week 2

During our monday lesson I was still looking up random facts on homophobia, using the 'Ebscohost' website. Unfortunatley the site is a bit buggy, so I couldnt get much into the site.

Week 3

Ms McInnes taught us CRAP,which is a method of learning it stands for Credibility Reliablilty Authority and Purpose. During our Tuesday Lesson we were told to do our Research Proposal So I started working on mine:

Research Proposal
The topic I have chosen is Teenagers & Homophobia. My Hypothesis is Males are more Homophobic than Women. It’s something which is a serious problem in many schools and in some societies. In todays society there are many Homosexuals that are scared to come out due to the harsh nature others might put them through for being homosexual. It is something that is mainly common from males. This is also very popular in many teen shows this is displayed a lot and also in real life there is sometimes a lot of this whether it is hidden or blatantly displayed. The ways I will gather Primary resources are by interviewing people, experts eg 'Shine SA' and surveys. I will also use the internet, books and newspapers. Ethics and Anonymous. My chosen capability is Citizenship eg a poster which is brief to inform homosexual kids where to go if they need to talk.
My four questions will be:
Are Homosexuals scared to come out
Why are people scared of homosexuals
Why are people homosexuals
What is Homophobia
Who are Homosexual - statistics/ages/gender
How does it homosexuals affect non homosexuals
From these subheadings I should be able to decide wheather my hypothesis was correct or if it was wrong.
From doing this as my research topic I would overall like to use this to inform others that may be Homosexual or Homopphobic about each other and help try to prevent this from happening in our school and society, most peopl that are homophobic are just ignorant and in some cases homosexuals themselves but dont want to come out because they feel as they will get abused like how they abuse others.

Week 4

On Mondays Lesson I found out that 43% of males aged 14 - 17 agree that homosexuality is imoral. (http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/homophobic-us/2005/07/29/1122144018766.html)

During this week, Ms McInnes and I decided that I should go to Shine. She said before I go there I should ring up and prepare some questions to be prepared and not just going in without a clue.

Week 5

They five Whys:
1. Why are people Homophobic?
People are homophobic because they are scared.
2. Why are people scared?
People are scared becasue they are afraid that they and change them.

Week 6

This week I am going to start thinking about surveys, from completeing surveys from other peers, I think I am going to use the website Surveymonkey.com.
I also completed more Ebsco hose articles which hopefully will give me a higher mark.
Some starting questions for survey
Tick One:
Boy or Girl
Are you Homophobic?
Yes or No

Week 7

Done my survey please DO IT! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/33RGJTQ
I spammed my facebook friends to do this survey to get see how teenagers feel about Homophobia and Homosexuals.

Week 8

This week I have to talk and organize the police gay and lesbian people with Bronte.
N Word Be Hating on me. Week 8 and Im getting told my topic HOMOPHOBIA!!!! is too 'Controversial'. I think someone in the board of SACE is a bit (fill in word here). Im pretty furious as I do not want to restart this shitty subject in which its 'compulsarary' and I dont want to do another topic, redo my research or have to do it in another semester! My topic isnt 'puken' controversial kids know about homophobia, homosexual hell some people might even say they are homophobic or some kids might even know that their homosexual. For me to not get told that this isnt controversial before hand is BULLS*&@T!

Week 9

This week I am going to RESTART my research project as my old topic got SHUTDOWN! by the sace board. Because it was deemed too controversial for the Ethics commity. After discussing it with two different teachers I chose a new topic, which is 'Perception of Homosexuality in Senior Secondary Students'.

Four Guiding Questions:
Familiarity with homosexuals may affect peoples views.
Does Educating people about homosexuality change their views.
Does religious views afffect their views.
Has seeing gay people in the media and celebrities changed their perspection
On the Friday lesson, Ms McInnes gave me a article on how a Christian group went to a catholic school to 'cure' homosexuality.

Research Proposal
From checking with two different teachers my new research Topic is Perception of Homosexuality in Senior Secondary Schools. Using my four guiding questions (above) I am going to find out how teens in high school see homosexuality. I will be doing this by surveys, interviews, news paper articles and also internet. This subject is touched apon in the media such as tv shows and films which I find is a way to let it be aware there are homosexual people everywhere and its ok to be different. I am thinking to make a poster for citizenship something along the lines of its ok to be gay or if you are gay and need someone to talk to.

Week 10

On the thurday lesson we looked at a A grade standard research project and a B+ project. It was very descriptive and well done.

Week 11

Outcome
For this research project I am currently studying The Perception of Homosexuality in Senior Secondary School.

"The Australia Institute study, which drew on interviews with almost 25,000 people by Roy Morgan Research, found attitudes varied widely depending on age, education and where people lived. Those likely to disapprove of gays are the less educated, the more religious and men, particularly those older than 65." (Taken from the age, 14/04/11)

Week 12

Week 13

Drafting outcome:

Introduction:
My topic is "Perception of homosexuality in senior secondary years". I will look at how students in the senior years of high schools view homosexuality. I chose this topic because over the years I have come across many different people with different backgrounds ie; religions, race, age and gender. Opinions between people vary between all of them. I find this topic very interesting as it is something that I feel isn't touched on all that well in high schools. After completeing this project I may be informed enough to be a postive influence on my peers beliefs. This would lead me to the chosen capabilities of Personal Development.

Guiding Question 1:
Does familiarality with homosexuals may affect peoples views?
  • At home/reletives
  • Friends
  • School
Guiding Question 2:
Does Educating people about homosexuality change their views?
  • School
  • Home
  • News
Guiding Question 3:
Does religious views afffect their views?
  • Brought up beliefs
Guiding Question 4:
Has seeing gay people in the media and celebrities changed their perspection?
  • Television shows
  • Gay celebrities

I will find these things out by using internet websites and news articles to help. It is hard to get surveys done as perental permission is required to talk to students.
